What you need to know

What is a Schengen visa?

A Schengen Type C visa covers short stays across all member countries. You apply through the embassy of your main destination—the country where you spend the most nights. Bulgaria and Romania are now full members.

Fees for Indian citizens

  • Adults: €90
  • Children aged 6–12: €45
  • Children under 6: free
  • VFS service charges and travel insurance are additional
  • The fee is the same for single-entry, multiple-entry and long-validity applications

Base document checklist

  • Current passport and all old passports
  • Aadhaar and PAN cards
  • Two white-background photos (35–45mm)
  • Travel history
  • Six-month savings statement, sealed and signed; ₹4–5 lakhs is a working benchmark
  • Other financial evidence such as FDs, mutual funds or LIC
  • Optional supporting evidence: credit-card statements and asset evaluation

Employment, business or retirement proof

  • Employed: six months' salary slips, two years' ITR, NOC and employment letter
  • Business: registration, GST, licence, partnership deed, company statements, ITR and PAN
  • Retired: pension book and three-month pension statement
  • Where relevant: marriage certificate, spouse/children's Aadhaar or birth certificate

Inviters and sponsors

  • Invitation and sponsorship letters
  • Inviter or sponsor passport and status documents
  • Employment letter, three months' payslips and bank statements
  • Tenancy agreement and a recent utility bill

Mandatory travel documents

Every applicant needs travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical cover, a confirmed flight itinerary, hotel bookings and a cover letter. Romford Holidays arranges these as part of your file.

Long-validity multiple-entry visas

Under the EU cascade rules for Indian nationals, travellers who lawfully used two Schengen visas within three years may qualify for a two-year multiple-entry visa. After using that correctly, they may qualify for five years. We structure eligible applications to request maximum validity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Schengen visa questions

Which Schengen country visa is easiest to get from India?

Approval depends more on your profile than the country. Applying through your genuine main destination with clean, consistent documents is the strongest approach.

How much bank balance is required?

There is no official fixed amount. A healthy six-month statement—₹4–5 lakhs as a working benchmark—plus stable income evidence gives the file strength.

How long does processing take?

Standard processing is around 15 working days, but peak season can take longer. Apply four to eight weeks before travel.

Can I visit multiple countries?

Yes. One Schengen visa permits travel across all 29 member countries within your authorised stay.

Can I get a five-year visa on my first application?

No. Long-validity visas follow the cascade system and require previous correctly used Schengen visas.
